62 years ago today, The Beatles recorded German language versions of their hits “Sie Liebt Dich” (“She Loves You” – which you just heard) and “Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand” (“I Want to Hold Your Hand”).
On this day in 1802 the first ever Burns Night celebration took place in Greenock, Scotland. Tomorrow at the Marriott is the 21st Light Into Europe Burns Supper. It’s not too late to grab a ticket for this fabulous event full of haggis, whisky, dancing and fine costumes. And guide dogs – lovely, fluffy guide dogs. Google or search Facebook for Light Into Europe and grab the last few remaining tickets.
On this day in 1886 Karl Benz patented the Benz Motorwagen. The first vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine. Now just imagine how different the world would look if he hadn’t done that.
Today in 1942 the BBC broadcast the first version of Desert Island Disks. A show from which in no way did Expat Life steal any ideas.
